Saying NO to BIG OIL
Nowadays, most mainstream
paint is made with acrylic
resin, which is a nonrenewable plastic derived
from oil and gas. These fossil
fuels are the number one
cause of climate change.
There is no need to
use fossil-fuel-derived
plastic to make paint in
the 21st century.
Petrochemical-derived
plastic is used to make paint
because it’s comparatively
cheap, without consideration
for what it’s costing the
planet.
Plants used to make natural
paint binders are easy to
grow, powered by nature,
and represent true value
over low-cost plastics.
The cost of our dependence
on oil is felt well beyond
our energy bills. It drives
con昀氀ict, pollutes air and
water, as well as being
hugely expensive and
dif昀椀cult to extract and
transport across the globe.
Alternative energy sources
can be used to make paint.
Modern paint
manufacturing is deeply
carbon-intensive and
relies on a wide array
of chemicals.
Pioneering, gentle chemistry
makes paint from plants
and naturally occurring
raw materials which can
be returned to the planet
without damaging it.
