The beginning of
our relationship
with Auro
What is
‘Gentle
Chemistry’?
Inspired and encouraged by their determination
to create exceptional and sustainable products,
we began our relationship with our German
manufacturer, AURO, over 12 years ago.
The process that AURO uses to make paints is
similar to cooking in a kitchen, just on a bigger
scale. There’s no ‘cracking’ or an energy-intensive
supply chain that’s usually needed for acrylic
binders used in other paints. AURO are serious
about research and development and have a team
of chemists dedicated to developing and improving
their formulas and products.
Not only does AURO manufacture the base paints
and pigments for our beautiful colour range, but
we are also the UK distributor of AURO’s excellent
catalogue of paint and preparatory products.
AURO have been making paint for over 40 years
with minimal environmental impact, by using
natural and raw materials. They are chosen to be
biodegradable and are sourced and processed
as gently as possible. They have consistently
developed high-quality, high-performance
products by using their technical knowledge and
expertise to modify and combine natural materials.
The way they make our base paint is
fundamentally different – there’s no retort
chemistry, no embodied energy, no high
temperatures, no microbeads and no tankers
of shale gas, just plant-based ingredients, earth
and mineral pigments, and gentle chemistry.
Their plant-based binder Replebin® is something
of a world 昀椀rst, as it is a biogenic binding agent
developed by AURO over many years using
agricultural straw rather than hydrocarbons from
fossil fuel sources. In chemistry terms, Replebin®
consists of plant alcohol esters with organic acids
and is legally protected, independently veri昀椀ed,
and unique to AURO.
Together, we are determined to bring this
‘gentle’, plant-based approach to paint-making
to a wider audience, in an effort to reduce
the very signi昀椀cant pollution resulting from
modern paints.
