Responsibility
We acknowledge
that in doing
business, we are
creating negative
impacts that are
absorbed by all
of us collectively.
We have built an entire economic system based on the
use of ‘externalities’ as a concept that excuses pollution
and exploitation as a necessary part of bettering society
and raising people out of poverty. It’s a system that’s
had some success, but is vastly less effective than
nature, which sustains almost in昀椀nite life forms without
threatening the planet’s biosphere.
We would argue that, while some of the corporations
and practices it has spawned are literally criminal, all
of them (including our own) are corrupt in the sense
of their inability to provide for today without stealing
from the future. It is, in every sense of the word, an
unsustainable system.
